Blizzcon 2011 World of Warcraft Guild Character Badges

Somehow or another I completely forgot to upload the completed and colored versions of the badges I made for my guild’s big dinner at Blizzcon 2011. Oops. So here they are. They’re all done in Copic marker. The colored versions are mostly ones that people paid me to have colored; the black and white ones I did out of the kindness of my charitable heart. *coughs* Usually, I’d charge $15 for a colored ACEO. So if anyone wants one of these, let me know. :3 I can even add a badge holder and lanyard for a few dollars extra! The top left one was a special commission, by the way, so that’s why it looks different and has a background.

It’s Christmas time, and that means I get to dig out my 2009 Druid Christmas illustration I did for Blizzard’s Holiday Card Contest. Alas, I didn’t win anything, but I was fortunate enough to get an honorable mention for it. I’m very grateful for the recognition. (Too bad they couldn’t be bothered to credit any of the artists who got honorable mentions, though…)

World of Warcraft Badge Project

Here I am, continuing my legacy of bad photos of otherwise decent artwork. I decided that I wanted not only to get a lot of practice drawing ACEOs, but that it would be hella fun if I drew a bunch of people from my World of Warcraft guild. These are great folks who have essentially been my family for the past 5 years or so, and each year we make an effort to meet up at a big dinner the night before Blizzcon. My plan is to draw an ACEO of each guild member’s character who is attending said dinner (only a few people have tickets to the convention itself, but many go to the dinner) and write their toon’s name on the top. Then I’m going to purchase some badge holders and lanyards so that each person has a badge of their WoW toon. Cool, right?! The pic I’ve posted is a few of the sketches; I’ll be inking all of them and if they want them colored I will do so for some small compensation (mostly to help me purchase more Copic markers). I’m also going to be coloring my own badge and my boyfriend’s and probably my guild leader’s because they’ve done so much for me, and because I can. :)

I’ll post more pics when they’re inked. There’s going to be about 20 badges total. And yes, I will totally take commissions for these if anyone is interested. Thanks for looking! ^^

It took me a bit longer to post this than I intended, but here we go. As I mentioned previously, I’ve been buying Copic markers with the intention of taking ACEO commissions. I’m slowly getting better with them; the above are some of my very first cards, so they’re not as great as they could be. It’d mean a lot to me if someone likes my art enough to commission me.

Anyways, I’m starting out with ACEOs because they’re easy and small. I can also do digital sketches because they shouldn’t take too much time. I’ll move on to colored CGs when I know I can do them in a time-efficient manner. Here’s the prices for my commissions:

ACEO
$5 Inked
$10-$15 Colored (depending on detail)

Generally, I can fit one character on a card, or one character with a small pet.

$10 Half Body
$15-20 Full Body

I Love Markers!

I am excited to announce that I ordered my first set of Copic markers! ^^ When I was in high school, I started to use Prismacolor markers and they quickly became my favorite traditional coloring medium. It’s been years since I really did any non-digital work and I decided just recently to start trying my hand at ACEOs (also known as artist sketch cards). Since they’re little, I have confidence that I can complete them and have fun doing it!

I decided to go with Copic Ciao because they’re a bit cheaper and so I can try more colors. The quality is the same; the main difference, I believe, is that Ciaos hold less ink than the Sketch series of markers. There’s only one set of 24 to choose from, but the price seemed to be a good line between the cost of a set of 12 and a set of 36. Here’s the palette:

I think my only gripe is the lack of a dark purple. I think, however, that I should be able to use my Prismacolor purples along with the Copics without too much trouble. Prismacolors are still very high quality in my eyes; I just wanted to fulfill my dream of getting some Copics!

Speaking of Prismacolors, mine are mostly 10-15 years old and they still work great. Unfortunately, the fine point tips on mine aren’t the ideal size for coloring small trading cards. I noticed today when looking at Prismacolors online that since the last time I bought one, they changed the design. The oldest Prismacolor markers had a really nice brush-style medium tip on the smaller end, which was later changed to a super-fine point that I never liked very much. It seems that, to my delight, they’ve switched back to a slightly larger brush tip. This means that should I choose to buy any of the new Prismacolor markers, I’ll actually be able to use the fine tip and it should be an ideal size for coloring my ACEOs!

Here’s a crappy phone photo of the two older types of Prismacolor fine points:

Look at the difference! The marker on the left is super old.. and it still works like brand new! I never had much luck with the fine tip style on the right, so I’m glad they’ve gone back to a tip similar to the older style. :)

I’ll be sure to post some in progress photos of my first ACEOs soon, and if you like them, maybe you can commission me for one! ;)

Fushigi Yuugi is one of my all-time favorite anime series, and Nuriko is one of my favorite characters. Since I’ve been messing around with Painter, I decided to do something small and familiar to me. This took far longer than it should have, because I don’t know Painter keybindings and couldn’t figure out how to use masks.
